Power Sleep

after weeks of experimentation, i seem to have found an acceptable cure for my insomnia. it puts me to sleep pretty fast, and even better, i have had a dream nearly every night i used this. prior to my discovery of brainwave generator, dreams were rare, occuring perhaps once every month or two. try it out and let me know how it works for you.

Hi, can you list the presets, thanks :) And are the biaural beats used based on any studies/experiments or you made it up.

Interesting... I tried it this a.m. before going to sleep (I work nights) and slept in a deep and peaceful sleep with very vivid dreams. I'm going to try it again and experiment. You may have come up on something there, chap.

to mark:
what presets do you want me to list? the beats did have some basis in other people's research - one site (i think hemisync) said that a lower base frequency amplifies the beat's effects (i verified this), another site said that theta is the beginning phase of sleep, and is also characteristic of dreams, and last but not least, the monroe institute said it took about 10 minutes before their beats had any real effect. the rest is the result of about 3 weeks of careful experimentation, testing, and tweaking.

to syster yin:
thank you for the complement. i am glad my preset helped you sleep.

I can't wait to burn this to a CD and try it out. I sleep, but often times it's restless and I rarely if ever dream.

hum, how do you burn a preset to a CD?

02-Jul-2002, Tyrus
Save it as a wave then convert it to MP3 then burn it

03-Jul-2002, Big Phil
Click on the menu "Wave"
Click on play into WAV
click okay and choose where you want it to be saved
Dont bother converting to MP3, open your cd-burning software and tell it to create a music cd
Add the wav files into the layout and burn it.

Curious... anyone know a preset that helps getting lucid dreams? This one lets you have more vivid dreams... do you think it might increase the chance of having a lucid one? If not, are there any other presets good for lucid dreams?

I think this one works great. I usually play it in bed en I rarely hear the end of it, must be cause I fall asleep.

I used to be a terrible sleeper.

Only problem is that I wake up around 5 in the morning, but than I just play it again..

18-Oct-2002, sure
I dunno why but this does not work at all for me.

It kept me wide awake for an hour almost, and when i did go to sleep i found that i would wake up about an hour or two later.

i tried it about 3 nights, using burned cd.

I would advise no conversion to mp3 before burning to cd.
Unless you encode at a very high 192+ bit rate, as mp3 will lose
some of the audio quality.

This worked for me, almost TO good! I always slept in very deep state and usually will have at least 2-3 active dream experiences (that I can recall), using your preset, I only have one. However, it is very clear, crisp colors, and the lucidness of it takes some getting used to.

My only negitive would be all but one time (out 6) I would wake up with a headache, and be so deep in the sleep state that when my alarm goes off, it's like I have to fight to wakefulness and I am groggy for about 30 min until I get moving and started with my day. I use 900mhz wireless headphones off my computer for now.

I experimented and found that I don't have to listen to the preset very long to still get the good benifits with out the bad. I now only listen about 10 min and may even follow up with say the "third eye opening" preset for another 5 min. With no headache and bad groggies.

Thanks,
Melanie

I've tried all of his sleep presets. They work alright, but in reality for me personally, Deep Mind IV makes me sleep deeper and I feel more refreshed in the morning. I could go to bed at 3:30AM, wake up at 7:45AM and feel great.

I found this preset works very very well. I normally have a hard time getting to sleep and staying asleep. Well I found that this preset does not put me to sleep every time (but almost) it definitely keeps me asleep. And if I happen to wake up I can fall right back to sleep.

I also notice the same thing that Melanie did. Some of the time I cannot easily wake up after using this preset, as I am overly groggy. My wife has attempted to wake me a few times, each time I am supposedly coherent and tell her I am getting up, but I have no memories of it and I just stay in bed sleeping (reminds me of trying to wake up for high-school, heh). But since I find that I am an insomniac, to me this preset is my favorite when I need sleep regardless of the grogginess.

I just downloaded this and was looking forward to some sleep. I don't know what its supposed to do in all 'sides get me sleeping. And some one up there must hate me becuase I can't get the thing to get playing. It says there is some kind of driver problem or somthing. E-mail me if you might know what the problem is. please.

I have read that it although true it does degrade quality, it does not however alter the effects of binaural beats for whatever reason I can't remember.

20-May-2003, Ed
Binaural beats use plain old sine waves at audible frequencies. Compressing to mp3 doesn't really affect these frequencies very much, mostly the really high frequencies. Think about it. Most of the monroe stuff was released on tape, the quality of that is much lower than mp3.

Hi, when is the best time to use this preset?
I have no idea, when I should use it.

Thanks. Arnold

Can I listen to this preset without headphones and just play it through the speakers of my stereo and still get the effects of the binaural beats?

*-*

Also, there has already been talk of conversion to WAV or mp3 formats....

My 2nd question:

If I dub a tape from the CD, will it alter the effects of the binaural beats?

Hopefully, someone can share their experiences with me on these 2 issues.

Thanks!

>Can I listen to this preset without headphones and just play it through the speakers of my stereo and still get the effects of the binaural beats?

No, unfortunately not, because both channels have to be induced absolutely separated from each other. I don't even respond to earphones (due to the lack of low frequencies I think), to my AKG-Headphone very well, though that means I cannot move my head during the night without waking up...

>If I dub a tape from the CD, will it alter the effects of the binaural beats?

Theoretically not (except the loss in sound quality which may decrease the effects a tiny bit), but especially older tapedecks tend to go a few percents faster or slower than they should because the mechanics is a little overaged. When played back on a walkman with "regular" speed, the frequencies (and effects) of course change.

Try recording a simple sine tone like 1000 or 400 Hz and play it on pc/cd and tapedeck/walkman simultaneously. If the tones do absolutely match, the tape speed is OK - if one tone is higher than the other, the effect of the binaural beats will be altered in one way or the other.

This preset Worked!!! Well, I went to sleep after a few minutes and slept for 20 minutes. It was a light afternoon nap. No dreams as far as I can recall.
I might try it tonight again.
I wrote it from the WAV to an audio CD.
I would use mp3 at 320bps but until I'm sure the effect will work....

01-Oct-2003, mercurysquad
dubbing to tape: it will more than likely ruin the preset, as julian pointed due to speed differences (they always exist no matter how good your player/recorder is), but also because tapes always add leakage of the order of 10-15% in the stereo separation. so yes: dubbing a tape will probably lessen the effect.

burning CDs from mp3: this is crazy, you dont need to convert to mp3 not only because of the quality factor, but also because its completely un-necessary, your cd burning software will without exceptions, convert it back to WAV format before burning. So by not converting to mp3 you will save some time besides preserving the pristine sound quality. Its like this: bwgen: wave file > you: mp3 > your cd burning software: back to a wave format file on your CD. why not skip the mp3 part totally: bwgen: wave > your cd burner: still a wave!

04-Oct-2003, Wolverine
No,mercurysquad,my cd burning software puts mp3 files on the CD which I play using my mp3 cd player. It does not convert back to WAV!
I can put more files in this way especially long presets.
The mp3's are high quality (320bps) and all frequencies are included because I set that option.

04-Oct-2003, Wolverine
I DON'T burn an audio cd.
I create a normal ISO filesystem in Nero. Easy as ABC and Pi..

16-Oct-2003, Peter
I heard this yesterday in bed while already being sleepy and had a very pleasant dream which for me is a very rare event (or at least I don't remember 'em else). I will definately use this again :)

@Wolverine:
>The mp3's are high quality (320bps) and all frequencies are included because I set that option.

Though it's usually good to preserve the whole frequency range of the original sound file (normally MP3 cuts at ~18 KHz), this is not essential to the binaural beat frequency which results of the *difference* between the carrier frequencies, e.g. if you have a sine tone with 400 Hz left and 407 Hz right, the binaural beat is at 7 Hz. So it's not important if any frequency above 407 Hz is preserved, as long the MP3 encoder manages to separate the channels (Normal, not Joint Stereo) and keeps the 7 Hz difference. I've experimented at 320k with lame 3.92 and the Radium codec and noticed no difference to wav.

24-Nov-2003, Wolverine
Yeah, I now encode them to vbr max 320bps without preserving the whole frequency range. The results are ok. I encode with besweet which uses the lame dll.

Tried this preset last night. I was lying in bed with the headphones on and I was trying to get to bed REALLY early. I got sleepy, but never fell asleep, and I heard the end of the preset. Then I just got more awake and gave up on falling asleep early.

It works! I wasn't able to remeber any dream for about week but I listened this preset for one hour before sleep and I rembered my dream quiet well:)

It works for me too yippee. At first i thought it couldn't work, but gave it a go as i was too tired to argue. All i remember is listening to this through headphones for a while, turning it off thinking it hadn't worked, then waking up late for work the next morning.
tried it the next night just to make sure, and the same result. me happy, sleep at last.

A comment on those of you talking about MP3s and certain types of headphones...

As an amatuer musician and audio engineer, I can tell you that part of the compression that MP3s perform, regardless of bitrate, is stereo compression. Any type of stereo compression will completely nullify the binaural beats. You can make an MP3 in dual-channel or discreet-stereo modes, but it requires special software that gives that option (like Adobe audition).
As for the one person who used wireless headphones, even a good signal on those could easily cause crosstalk between the two channels.
Bottom line is that if you're going to use it on a CD, use the original .wav file as others have said. For headphones, use corded headphones, and if you can, track down a pair of in-ear headphones... no, not earbuds, but in-ear, meaning they go into the opening of the actual ear canal. Shure makes some very expensive ones, but Sony makes a very good pair for about $40, and Koss makes a decent pair for about $20. The Sonys are my personal favorite. These types of earphones actually block off the ear canal, creating a vacuum that not only improves sound quality and bass response immensely but also helps block out outside noise, almost like a pair of earplugs would. The Sonys use a soft, silicone material that is extremely comfortable, even while sleeping, and don't let the fact that they're in your ear canal scare you, because they aren't large enough to go deep enough to damage your ear, even if you roll over on top of them in the night. Safe, secure, and the perfect buddy for any brainwave generator lover or even any audiophiles.

Funny, I use besweet which is free and open source, and it includes dual stereo options just the same!

i do mp3 in320, i cant hear the diference, if you use mp3player turn off any sourround, and others effect like eqalizer, thats modify much sound of the preset, especialy (in my mp3) WOWsourround-the sound with this options on is very different from original

Seems Pretty cool, imma give it a try.

As far as someone asked earlier around 2003, they asked if there are any presets for "lucid dreaming" from what i have studied and read about in articles, lucid dreaming is correlated to seratonin levels and i would be very impressed if external stimulus (audio) could affect the increase in seratonin levels. this is because in an evolutionary standpoint, WE dont want to have ANY seratonin released into the Central Nervous System, otherwise we would actually be moving in our sleep. so in sum, your lucid dreaming will have to come about by trying to shift the Sleep cycles out of REM wave sleep, without actually waking up.

Just wondering, when I put this into a WAV format the program says EVERY file that I try is 40 minutes long. How long is this file really?

Could someone please send me the wav or mp3 file. Thanks nzer.jd@gmail.com

What program should i run it with? And how do i get it to work. Is it a music file? Im so confused. If you could send it in a music player file to Lyon_Sablae@Yahoo.com that would be awesome.

I also have a mac and just bought Mastering Astral Projection and am VERY disappointed that I can't fully use what I paid for. Why would anyone make this shareward in a PC only format?? It doesn't make sense, particularly when so many creative people are Mac only.

If these presets are eventually converted to MP3s can someone let me know?

I have a sleeping disorder, and am an insomniac.
I usually go to bed at 4 AM, and even then I have a hard time falling asleep. Usually takes 1h before I even begin to fall asleep, and no matter at which hour I go to sleep, if it is 1 AM or 8 AM, I still wake up at 4 PM.

Anyway, tried this last night, stood still, began focusing, imagining things while I was listening to it. I was focusing my mind on the TV in my room, began reshaping it with my mind, turning it around and around. The weirdest thing that happened, never experienced it before, was when I stopped thinking about the damn TV, and clear my mind. At this point I felt my whole body drop into a state of uter numbness complemented by a strong shiver in my whole body. As I was realising this, I freaked unctrontrolably, heart rate went sky high. I listened to the preset for 40 minutes being tired. Didn't fall asleep, but that...thing.. I described before was very intense and very fast.. it was like dropping into an abyss and not being able to do anything.

I'll give it another try and see how it goes.
